by Charles Townshend

Paperback: 161 pages

Subject Headings:

Politics, History, Terrorism

Appeal:

Nonfiction, Political Systems, Global Terrorism

Plot Summary:

A very short introduction to Terrorism lives up to its name by really giving readers a short overview of global organizations responsible for terrorist acts. They also give a brief overview of how each group got started and how they usually lash out. Another aspect they cover are motivations that inspire acts of terrorism, and include a whole chapter devoted to religiously rooted terrorism. They also include a chapter focusing on some of the ways that terrorism can be countered, and take the time to go over some of the pros and cons of these measures. This small essay really is an excellent introduction to the topic. I would really recommend this book as a teaching aid or a supplementary reading. With so much turmoil in the world today, terrorism is a topic that is very relevant. The more students and teachers alike are educated on this subject, the better off we will be in the long run.
